Case study:

“On the road” is a personal project to honor women motorcyclists breaking stereotypes, and to celebrate their courage and the freedom of the open road, all set against the iconic landscape of the Southwest.

on the road

The image of a woman of color riding proudly along the harsh, arid desert echoes road movies and motorcycle culture, the counterculture movement of women and minorities of the 1960s and 19670s, and Westerns.

Her eyes, one on the road, the other looking knowingly at the lone tree at the top of a cliff, convey her determination and defiance. The color scheme is typically Western, with the dominant green highlighting growth and renewal.

the process

It started with a rough sketch.

The motorcycle, an Indian model, was meticulously researched and each part fine-tuned for accuracy before being merged.

For the jacket and boots, I drew inspiration from online examples.

In Fresco, I refined the details.

I experimented with different headwear before settling on the green beret.
